About the opportunity 

Sydney Vital (the Northern Translational Cancer Research Centre) is situated on the campus of Royal North Shore Hospital. The Centre has been jointly funded by a Cancer Institute NSW (CINSW) and the University of Sydney which is the administering institution for the grant.

Sydney Vital brings together a highly motivated group of experienced cancer researchers, both pre-clinical and clinical, along with surgeons, physicians, allied health and oncologists to undertake translational cancer research which will ultimately lead to improved survival and quality of life for cancer patients. It aims to develop a pipeline of preclinical and clinical research activities to achieve this.

Reporting to the Research Development Manager, the Ethics Coordinator will support our researchers with obtaining Human Research Ethics and Research Governance Approval.

The purpose of the position is to enhance Sydney Vital Members research efforts by efficiently preparing and coordinating all documentation required to gain Human Research and Ethics Committee (HREC) approval and Governance approval during the duration of a clinical trial.   This position provides a role in fulfilling the responsibilities in relation to research involving Humans in following Good Clinical Practices as set out by the International Conference on Harmonisation, NH&MRC Guidelines and with approval from a Human Research Ethics Committee.

  • tertiary qualifications in health science, allied health or similar education/training and experience
  • demonstrated experience, expertise and broad knowledge in ethics/regulatory affairs frameworks
  • excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with day to day operational matters
  • the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work
  • a genuine commitment to accuracy and exceptional attention to detail
  • previous administration experience and the flexibility to support key research staff with various administrative tasks
  • advanced computer literacy skills
  • previous experience working in a clinical trials environment will be an added advantage.

The Ethics Coordinator will work as part of a team within Sydney Vital and will be the primary point of contact for issues relating to Ethics and Governance submissions, status and feedback.
