About the opportunity 

The Associate Director – Clinical Trials Support will be responsible for developing systems, processes, policies and procedures to support the conduct of clinical trials across the University. The occupant of the position will lead a multifunctional, multidisciplinary team to identify needs, improve processes and develop solutions to provide services to researchers conducting clinical trials. The Associate Director will play a key role in developing strategies for clinical trials support, identifying key metrics and developing a reporting system for clinical trial activities.  The Associate Director – Clinical Trials Support will play an important role in building relationships with internal and external stakeholders. 

The Associate Director - Clinical Trials Support serves as the subject matter expert for Clinical Trials to all matrixed functions within the organisation (Safety, Legal, Ethics, and Commercial) as well as promoting adherence to research standard operating procedures, ICH/GCP guidelines, TGA regulations, and any other additional state or local regulatory requirements or standards of practice. The position is responsible for establishing and maintaining strong relationships with investigators, clinicians, coordinators, administrators, patients and sponsor/CRO representatives. The Associate Director will demonstrate strong project planning, leadership, negotiation and presentation skills as well as an ability to contribute practical solutions to problems.

  • Expertise in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and clinical trials management
  • High level leadership and management skills, preferably in the health or research sector
  • The ability to think strategically, anticipate trends and provide high level advice to university executives
  • Experience developing, leading and managing high performing teams
  • The ability to drive change by influencing, and generating support from key stakeholders.

The Associate Director Clinical Trials Support works autonomously within the broad strategic framework agreed by the Director, Research Integrity. The Associate Director is expected to deploy highly developed relationship management skills and teamwork in the knowledge, understanding and coordination of clinical trials support. The role-holder applies extensive experience, judgement and professional know how to make strategic decisions in relation to clinical trials support.
