About the opportunity

The Rolf Edgar Lake Postdoctoral Fellowship was established in 1978 to promote and encourage postdoctoral research in the University of Sydney Medical School. The Fellowship is awarded on the basis of merit and the appropriateness of the proposed program. Preference will be given to applicants who have already embarked on research careers, and for whom the award of the fellowship can be seen as a significant contribution to the further development of their careers.

Preference will be given to scientists at an earlier stage of their careers i.e. within five years of award of PhD. Qualifying recipients shall also be paid an appropriate clinical loading. Fellowships may be accompanied by a grant-in-aid of up to $15,000.

  • Candidates must hold a PhD or equivalent. A copy of your official academic record must be included if you are not a graduate of the University of Sydney.
  • Letter of support from both your proposed supervisor and head of organisational unit/school. Your proposed supervisor must be affiliated with the Sydney Medical School and must indicate agreement to act as part of the application submission.
  • Ethical and/or biosafety approvals if appropriate.
  • Research plan. An outline of no more than three (3) pages describing the proposed pilot project including the following points:

-        Title of the project

-        Aims and significance

-        Research plan, methods and techniques

-        Budget outline

  • CV / Track record (including dates) including publications list (citation rates and journal impact factors) and other research productivity (e.g. grants and student supervision) for the past five years.

Referees. List the names, appointment details and contact details (including telephone and emails address) for three referees (excluding the supervisor or head of the unit where the project will be based) who are willing to provide a written report in support of your application upon request.
