About the opportunity
Reporting to the Brain and Mind Centre Academic Lead for Data Science, the Translational Data Scientist in brain and mind sciences (neuroscience and mental health) will help support research opportunities across all areas of basic, clinical and translational medicine and health. The role will enhance and develop data science projects across Brain and Mind Centre; grow data science capacity to promote discovery; provide support with open-source and proprietary software for generating data visualisations and data understanding; and assist with data access and management.

We are looking for a Translational Data Scientist who possesses demonstrated expertise in:
- using complex data sets
- modern data-centric programming languages including one of Python, R and developmental languages including one of C++ or Java
- understanding of modern data software and tools, from cloud computing to the many existing commercial products used for data analytics
Further, this role relies on an aptitude for understanding and interpreting researchers’ needs, advising on and providing appropriate data science skills for the research objectives, and communicating and translating this back to the researchers, in an ongoing discussion, to progress and achieve successful outcomes.
The successful candidate will work closely with basic science, clinical research and academic staff working in brain and mind sciences both physically at Brain and Mind Centre and across The University and its affiliated teaching hospitals and research partners.
