About the opportunity 

The Psycho-oncology Cooperative Research Group (PoCoG) is one of 13 national cooperative cancer clinical trials groups, with a mandate from Cancer Australia to increase collaboration and innovation in psycho-oncology research. Its aim is to improve outcomes for people affected by cancer by developing and facilitating high quality, collaborative and clinically relevant research focused on optimising psychosocial and supportive care.

The Research Officer (or PhD candidate) will be responsible for undertaking varied research activities mainly related to a NHMRC project grant concentrating on the assessment of patient responses to cancer genomic screening. It will include liaison with a number of stakeholders including researchers, hospital clinic staff, patients and their families, organising meetings, writing reports and literature reviews.

Position duties include:

• contributing to the successful completion of the Project Grant research program
• conducting data collection, data analysis and literature searches, aiding in preparing preliminary reports
• conducting research work as part of the broader Research agenda
• managing the development and submission of research publications for the Cancer Genomics study

• honours degree in a health related or clinical discipline e.g. Health Service Administration, Health informatics, Public Health, Allied Health or similar
• extensive experience in working on research projects
• experience in carrying out scientific literary searches, and preparing literary reviews for further analysis
• ability to work in a complex and challenging environment.
