The Save Sight Institute (SSI) was established in 1985 and has grown to be one of the top three ophthalmic research institutes in Australia. It is internationally recognised as a centre of innovative research into ophthalmology and as a centre of excellence for clinical research, learning and teaching, employing over 100 people across a range of research, clinical, teaching and administrative roles. Ophthalmology is a highly specialised area of clinical medicine and science and the Save Sight Institute has gathered together a critical mass of clinicians, researchers, equipment and technology that is unique within the University of Sydney. 

We are currently seeking Technical Assistant who will conduct routine technical and administrative tasks which support the collection and digital imaging of donor research eye tissue in addition to maintaining the existing clinicopathological archive, whilst ensuring relevant Work, Health and Safety standards are maintained.

As the Technical Assistant you will:

  • provide timely, effective and efficient Ophthalmic Pathology research support and assistance, working closely with the Research Affiliate and related Academics
  • maintain the Ophthalmic Pathology research laboratory workplace with reference to the Research Affiliate to ensure that research requirements are met
  • ensure the Ophthalmic Pathology research laboratory area is compliant with Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) requirements
  • assist ophthalmic pathology research academics with reporting and preparation of documentation.
