The Australian Centre for Field Robotics (ACFR) is based in the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering (AMME) at The University of Sydney, and is dedicated to the research, development, application and dissemination of field robotics principles. The ACFR is now the largest robotics and automation research group in Australia and is also one of the largest of its kind in the world.

As a Technical Officer you will provide technical and logistical support to ACFR’s agriculture projects, both in the lab and in the field.

As the successful candidate you will need to demonstrate:

  • tertiary degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Mechatronic Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant experience and education and/or training
  • experience working unsupervised with hand tools, working on electronics.
  • hands on skills with solid modelling software and the design and fabrication of hardware
  • sound working knowledge and acute awareness of safety regulations and operating procedures within the laboratory environment and in the field
  • demonstrate the skills and experience necessary to manage the processes for testing and support of software/hardware for robotic systems
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to liaise effectively with both scientific/technical and non-technical colleagues. Particularly effective at translating technical faults to University support teams and rectifying issues with remote support.
  • ability to deal with change. Flexibility to change focus and respond to urgent tasks, especially during periods of high operational tempo.
