Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical graduates for appointment to the position of Professor of Endocrine Surgery based at the Royal North Shore Hospital campus of Sydney Medical School. The Royal North Shore Hospital and The Kolling (nee Kolling Institute of Medical Research) have well-established national and international reputations for excellence in the clinical management and research of endocrine tumours and complex endocrinopathies. Appointed to the Northern Clinical School in the Discipline of Surgery, you will provide academic leadership in endocrine surgery at the Northern Clinical School, Royal North Shore Hospital and the Northern Sydney Local Health District.

You will also be responsible for:

  • teaching in the University of Sydney Medical Program
  • actively conducting and contributing to research
  • supervising postgraduate research students
  • overseeing and coordinating the work and training of registrars within the hospital and other postgraduate teaching.

You must be a medical graduate registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and/or other specialist recognition as recognised by the Health Insurance Commission.

Additionally, you must also have:

  • proven ability to work closely and harmoniously with colleagues, and have highly developed interpersonal skills
  • a demonstrated ability to formulate and lead a research strategy within your discipline
  • a PhD or comparable higher research degree or equivalent qualification and demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching, research and service
  • the ability to contribute significantly to most activities of the school and hospital as well as play a prominent role within the profession and the University.

Term

The appointment is on a part-time (0.3 FTE) basis for a period of 5 years, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees, and the successful candidate will be offered an attractive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees. Research facilities integrated with the Kolling Institute, including office and/or laboratory space, will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
