The Brain and Mind Centre (BMC) is a Centre of the University of Sydney, made up of 27 research units, staffed by around 200 researchers and 100 students. Our people work collaboratively to develop new procedures, technologies and medicines and to provide immediate access to the most advanced treatments for mental and neurological disorders.

Led by Associate Professor Michael Valenzuela, the Regenerative Neuroscience Group (RNG) aims to develop new preventative strategies to stop dementia occurring in the first instance, as well as trial new therapeutic ideas that may ultimately cure this dreadful condition and so bring hope to millions of affected individuals.

The RNG has collected internationally unique multimodal MRI datasets in the context of clinical trials in the elderly, and is currently involved in a number of ongoing NHMRC-funded trials with MRI outcomes. We are now seeking to employ a Postdoctoral Research Associate to lead and conduct the group’s neuroimaging research program, to contribute to student supervision, write papers and grants and carry out basic administrative duties.

To succeed in securing this role you will have:

  • a PhD in neuroscience, mathematics, computational biology or engineering 
  • a strong track record in multimodal and longitudinal neuroimage MRI analysis
  • demonstrated ability to supervise research students
  • high level Matlab skills
  • magnetic resonance spectroscopy experience (desirable)
  • experience operating animal or human MRI hardware (desirable)
  • experience in area of neurodegenerative disorders (desirable)
  • experience in clinical trials (desirable).

You will also have solid communication skills and high level organisational and time management ability.
