The Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery (also known as Sydney Nursing School, SNS) seeks to appoint an outstanding academic to the position of St Vincent’s Chair of Mental Health Nursing; a jointly funded full-time position offered by the University of Sydney (0.5FTE) and St Vincent’s Private Hospital Sydney (SVPHS) (0.5FTE).

The position represents a commitment by both partners to support the development of new models of mental health care, to prepare the workforce for such contexts of care and to provide evidence of effectiveness of care for people experiencing mental illness and their families. The position will also be responsible for developing strategic community and government partnerships to embed new models of care within the community. The St Vincent’s Chair of Mental Health Nursing will integrate education and research with clinical practice to improve care delivery to people experiencing mental illness.

As St Vincent’s Chair of Mental Health Nursing, you will be the Director of the Centre for Family-Based Mental Health Care (CFBMHC). You will primarily be located on the Darlinghurst Campus of St Vincent’s Private Hospital and St Vincent’s Hospital and in developing the CFBMHC, you will work within the multidisciplinary clinical, educational and research strategic frameworks of the University, and SVPHS, and in collaboration with St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney (SVHS) and SVPHS clinical staff, the Director of Mental Health and the Director of Uspace.

You will be an internationally recognised nursing leader with a track record of high quality research and publication, service improvement and education. You will undertake teaching commitments (inclusive of Higher Research Degree student supervision) according to the SNS work pattern policy for equivalent fraction and level of appointment.

You will have:

  • a PhD or Doctorate in Nursing, or other health related discipline and eligibility for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA)
  • evidence of international leadership in mental health with relevant peer reviewed, high impact publications or important reports of influence
  • demonstrated ability to perform high level administrative leadership and resource management activities with experience as a change agent or champion in community mental health care, mental health research, education and practice
  • demonstrated experience in university teaching at postgraduate levels, including evidence of higher research degree student supervision and completions.

TERM & REMUNERATION
The successful applicant will be offered a fixed term appointment for a minimum of 5 years. A competitive salary package will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
