Primary Industries and Regions SA, as a key economic development agency of the South Australian Government, works across a diverse range of industry sectors including agriculture, livestock, forestry, fishing and aquaculture and regional development. South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI) provides research and development services to the state government, commercial clients and research partners to help make South Australia’s primary industries and regions internationally competitive and ecologically sustainable. SARDI’s programs are designed to increase the productivity, sustainability and adaptability of the state’s agriculture, food and wine, fisheries and aquaculture and bioscience enterprises, create opportunities for market growth, address barriers to growth and provide applied solutions.

The Principal Scientist, Food Safety and Innovation, ensures the timely delivery of high quality research outcomes to Government, industry clients and the community and leads the Food Safety and Innovation Science Program through oversight of the Program budget and the leading and supervising of a multi-disciplinary work unit. The successful applicant will have the following: be recognised as a leading national and international authority in a field; exceptional conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills; be highly innovative and independent with external recognition for professional judgment; exceptional ability to identify opportunities, develop State or national programs; ability to gain substantial funding on a continuous basis from multiple sources and achieve substantial scientific outcomes with critical impact; and an appropriate publication record in local and internationally recognised journals and refereed conference proceedings, as lead author or supervising author.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

A PhD in a food safety or food technology related discipline (or equivalent research experience) is required.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

This is a contract/term vacancy up to 27/3/2020. Some out of hours, weekend and public holiday work will be required. Interstate, intrastate and international travel will also be required. A current driver's licence is essential
