       Project Officer NAPLAN

We are now looking for an innovative Project Officer with sound data skills to join the team to develop and monitor processes and timelines for collating, maintaining, and reporting of NAPLAN data. In undertaking these tasks, the role collaborates with team members and managers, operational business units and technology units to ensure timely accurate and operationally sound advice.

About the Role(s):

The Project Officer ensures data relating to NAPLAN accurately reflects rules and business processes during capture, storage and reporting. The role derives data from various corporate sources to reflect business requirements for reporting on NAPLAN activity.

Essential Requirements:

  • Previous business analyst experience, including data extraction, analysis, and management, report development, writing data processes, and developing data maintenance front-end.
  • Experience in undertaking data manager, data analyst, database administrator, or similar roles with experience in database systems such as MS-SQL, MySQL, or Oracle.

Highly desirable:

  • Experience with database systems and query tools, such as SSMS, Microsoft Access, Oracle or MySQL, SSIS objects, and ETL development and maintenance, with strong SQL scripting and MS Excel skills, and XML understanding is a plus.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Information Security, Privacy and confidentiality requirements and legislation.

The NSW Education Standards Authority (‘NESA’) was formally established on 1 January 2017 to improve quality teaching and student learning across all schools and school sectors.  It is responsible for the curriculum, assessment, teacher accreditation and regulatory standards in NSW schools, and accreditation of early childhood teachers.

Pre-screening questions:

Answer the two pre-screening questions below - we are looking for you to demonstrate your competency in this focus capability. Answer with concrete examples and in no more than 300 words per question. Briefly describe the context of the situation(s), the actions that you took, the outcome of your efforts and what you learned from the experience.

Question 1: From work experience, describe how you managed data of a complex nature, involving multiple stakeholders from various organisations. What was your role and what strategies did you implement to ensure that deliverables came in on time, within budget and of expected quality?

Question 2: Describe a time, using your prior experience, where you had to deal with a difficult stakeholder or a set of stakeholders, and where you had limited or no influence to change the way a stakeholder operates. What project management or stakeholder management strategies did you use to ensure you achieved the outcome you were looking for? And how did you manage the change within your team and with external stakeholders?

Under employment legislation all current and new Public Service non-executive employees are employed at a classification level and assigned to a role rather than appointed to a position. Employees may be re-assigned to other roles at the same classification over time, in line with organisation priorities and/or personal development plans.
