This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Scientist to join our Plant Genetics team, working with one or more multi-disciplinary project teams to deliver high quality science outcomes relevant to pastoral priorities.

Job Title: Senior Scientist – Plant Phenomics and Agritech

Location: Grasslands, Palmerston North

Minimum and maximum base salary: $95,943 to $112,874 (gross per annum)

Hours work per week: 40

Days Required: Monday to Friday

Number of Positions: One

Employment Type: Permanent fulltime

What you will be doing

Your excellent collaboration skills will be invaluable as you will be working with various teams to develop and implement methods for acquisition of data from plants using different imaging modalities and proximal and remote sensing sources, with a particular focus on pasture species. You will be developing models for estimation of agronomic stress and quality trail values from digital data. This varied role will see you consistently contributing to the delivery of high-quality research in Plant Science, which will include publishing internationally recognised research.

Your ideal background

  • PhD in natural, physical, engineering, or applied science.
  • Experience in imaging and sensors (digital imaging/digital agriculture) would be preferred.
  • Skilled in the collection of plant imaging and crop parameters to support interpretation of proximal and remote sensing data.
  • Skilled in algorithm and model development and analysing very large data sets with high performance computing resources.
  • Experience managing research projects (which could involve setting priorities, organising work schedule, basic supervisory techniques, communications and/or safety protocols).
  • Experience writing or assisting in the preparation of reports, manuscripts, or presentations.
