A world leader in molecular life sciences and tropical/infectious diseases, James Cook University (JCU) now has an exciting opportunity for an exceptional early career researcher to join our dynamic team of professionals in the Centre for Tropical Bioinformatics and Molecular Biology to strengthen our Bioinformatics capacity in support of research in human health and tropical disease. The position is full-time, fixed term to December 2026 and based at the Cairns Nguma-bada campus. Remuneration is at Academic Level B: $97,856 - $115,465 per annum plus superannuation.

WHAT YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH IN THE ROLE
Building on our recent discoveries, we are now seeking an innovative and enthusiastic early career researcher to develop bioinformatics software to support a variety of large genomics projects centred on the role of genetic variation in human disease and host/parasite interactions. In addition to research, you will undertake learning and teaching and engagement activities, contributing to the development and expansion of undergraduate/postgraduate teaching efforts in Bioinformatics.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE
With a PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, software engineering, biostatistics or related disciplines, you bring extensive experience in the development of computational workflows and software tools; pipeline/algorithm development and implementation in R, Python, Perl, shell scripts; next generation sequencing data analysis (RNA-Seq, WGS, long-reads, single cell) and analysis of genetic variation. You demonstrate enthusiasm and capacity for conducting internationally recognised research evidenced by a track record of publications, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience and the ability to supervise higher research degree students.
