Principal - Tiwi College (Relocate to Melville Island, NT)

 

Tiwi College is a unique boarding school, located at Pickertaramoor on Melville Island.  It is governed by the Tiwi Education Board and provides a culturally appropriate teaching and learning program for Tiwi students who come from the three communities located on the Tiwi Islands.

Your Opportunity:

As Principal you will:

  • In partnership with the Tiwi Education Board and the Tiwi leaders employed at the College, deliver the vision of the Tiwi Founding Fathers;
  • Embrace Tiwi culture, language and knowledge and embed it in the day-to-day life of the College;
  • In collaboration with the Tiwi leaders at the College, develop and implement a teaching and learning program that is culturally appropriate;
  • Develop and implement a workforce strategy to upskill Tiwi staff;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with outside agencies, to further enhance the educational activities at the College; and
  • Nurture positive relationships between all stakeholders, within a cross-cultural setting.

Your Role:

As Principal you will have responsibility for:

  • Leading the whole school community, through commitment to, and working towards, the shared vision of the Tiwi Education Board and implementing their strategic plan;
  • Upholding the Principalship as informed by the Tiwi Education Board’s values and moral commitment;
  • Setting and maintaining high standards for student and staff performance;
  • Being a role model by being an active participant in life long learning and ongoing professional development;
  • A knowledge and understanding of the relevant legislation and policies that impact on Tiwi College;
  • Building productive partnerships with the families, the broader Tiwi community, government agencies, community groups, industry, business and sporting organisations, to provide richer teaching and learning opportunities for the students at Tiwi College;
  • Working closely with the Business Manager of Tiwi Education Board Inc. to manage resources in a fiscally responsible manner to achieve goals.

In addition to your CV, a statement addressing the following criteria is required. Within the role, as described above, the applicant will demonstrate the following key capabilities in their written statement:

  • Demonstrated understanding and capacity to work successfully within a cross-cultural, Indigenous community, engaging with community members and families;
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and capacity to provide successful cross-cultural teaching and learning experiences for Indigenous students, that lead to quality learning outcomes for all students;
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated capacity to develop and sustain productive relationships in a cross-cultural setting;
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and analytical skills and the ability to use them to influence the educational agenda of a school;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage effectively human, financial and physical resources to deliver high quality educational outcomes;
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop and maintain an organisational culture based on ethical, professional and respectful practices.

Previous work in a remote location preferred
