Working as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team, you will gain training in pre-operative assessment, pre and post-operative care in refractive surgery, refractive surgery techniques associated with clear lens and cataract surgery, ultra-small incision cataract surgery and premium intra-ocular lens techniques. You will be responsible for managing the care of all patients allocated to your department in consultation with the responsible Consultants, Nurses and Allied Health professionals, whilst actively contributing to the continuous quality improvement and continuous education activities. Previous training and competence in standard phacoemulsification techniques is a pre-requisite. A full participation in the departmental research program will be expected and a history of successful peer-reviewed publication will be advantageous.
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital is a 320 bed hospital which provides a comprehensive range of specialist and diagnostic treatment services to a population base of approximately 250,000 people, living primarily in Adelaide's western suburbs. It also houses The Basil Hetzel Institute for Medical Research, which is affiliated with the University of Adelaide, University of South Australian and the Flinders University of South Australia. It operates as the strategic nexus between clinical issues and research priorities, made possible by the close interface with the hospital's clinical activity. The Department of Ophthalmology is also associated with the South Australian Institute of Ophthalmology.
Holding a MBBS or an equivalent qualification, you must be registrable with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA). You will bring appropriate postgraduate experience and completion of the primary examination, demonstrating competency in a range of routine and common procedural ward based skills. You will possess high level skills in problem solving and decision making at both the clinical and the individual level, and have genuine empathy for patients and their relatives and family.
