The Australia India Institute and the Victorian State Government have launched  the Doctorial Scholarship Program to allow ten of India’s “best and brightest” PhD students to study in Victoria.

As part of the scholarship program, each student will receive $90,000 and the opportunity to study at one of Victoria’s top nine universities in 2012.

To be launched at the Australian High Commission in Delhi, the program is designed to help strengthen relationships between Victoria and India.

Professor Amitabh Mattoo, Director of the Australia India Institute that is based at the University of Melbourne, said the scholarships are an important step in building strong ties between the Victorian Government and India.

“This is a singularly important initiative by the Victorian Government to build a real partnership with India,” Professor Mattoo said.
