Every school in Australia will be able to audit how safe they are under the release of the revised National Safe Schools Framework.

The release of the Framework coincides with Australia's first National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence.

Under the framework, schools should have "effective risk prevention plans for the use of technology in the classroom and for playground organisation and supervision" and teach "skills and understandings to promote cyber-safety and for countering harassment, aggression, violence and bullying".

There are nine key elements, involving about 50 "key characteristics", designed to assist schools including: leadership commitment to a safe school, a supportive and connected culture, policies and procedures, professional learning, positive behaviour management, engagement, skill development and safe school curriculum, a focus on student wellbeing and ownership, early intervention and support and partnerships with families and community.

A resource manual including an audit tool will be attached to the framework.
