There’s only one week left for South Australians to nominate a top pedagogue, with the State Education Minister Jennifer Rankin urging parents, students and teachers to get their nominations in before Monday next week.

“The State Government Awards recognise dedication and excellence in public education,” Ms Rankine said.

“We know how important it is for children and young people to have enthusiastic, passionate and committed teachers, leaders and support staff to guide them through their schooling lives,” Ms Rankine said.

“If you believe someone has gone above and beyond, then please take a moment of your time to nominate them.”

There are two new award categories this year – the Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognises outstanding teachers who have worked in the industry for more than two decades, and the Early Years Teacher of the Year Award.

Regional winners for each category will be announced in July, while the overall state winners will be honoured at a ceremony in October.

These winners will each receive up to $20,000 to go towards professional development activities, which will help boost the quality of teaching and learning in SA’s public schools and preschools. The categories are:

  • School/Preschool Leader of the Year
  • Secondary School Teacher of the Year
  • Primary School Teacher of the Year
  • School/Preschool Support Staff Member of the Year
  • Innovative Engagement with Business and the Community
  • Lifetime Achievement Award (for teachers with more than 20 years in the industry)
  • Early Years Teacher of the Year

Nominations can be made by 5pm on Monday 13 May by visiting
