The Federal Government has put up $5 million for researchers to study the health impacts of bushfires.

Millions of Australians were affected by recent bushfires, often exposed to months of smoke haze and poor quality air.

Researchers can now access $5 million in federal government grants to investigate those health impacts.

Experts are expected to study the physical impacts of prolonged bushfire smoke exposure and the mental toll on communities.

They will also review frontline responders’ needs and make efforts to track their ongoing wellbeing.

The studies include a randomised trial to determine the impact of mask use on respiratory outcomes during the bushfire season.
