About the opportunity

The School of Humanities and Social Science, positioned within the Faculty of Education and Arts, is a community of scholars that provides a comprehensive, high quality and stimulating learning environment informed by rigorous, evidence-based critical inquiry and research.

The Discipline of Sociology and Anthropology recently ranked 4 (Above World Standard) in the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) assessment for Sociology, and in the Top 200 QS World University Rankings, is seeking an outstanding Criminologist or Sociologist of crime, to contribute towards the domains of academic work within the School: Teaching and Learning, Research and Innovation, and Service and Engagement.

The Senior Lecturer in Criminology will principally be involved with the development and management of the new Criminology major in the Bachelor of Social Science program and contribute to existing research strengths in Sociology.

This is a full-time, continuing position, based in Newcastle, with teaching contributions to our Central Coast Campus.

Skills and experience

To be successful in this position, you will have:

• a PhD in Criminology, or in the Sociology of Crime or equivalent qualification in a related field.
• a demonstrated commitment and capacity to teach criminology and to contribute to general teaching in the Social Science program for a variety of teaching modes, including online and flexible delivery.
• demonstrated research expertise in criminology and social theory.
• demonstrated experience in supervising Honours/HDR candidates in Criminology and Sociology.
• demonstrated research excellence through a track record of internationally competitive publications.

Academic level C - $113,473 to $126,955 plus contributory superannuation with Unisuper, attracting a generous employer contribution of 17%.
