About the opportunity
The University of Sydney à Beckett Fellowships aim to attract outstanding early career and mid-career researchers to the University of Sydney to contribute to and enhance the University’s research into the  broad areas of bowel cancer and bowel biology, health, nursing and clinical care – in keeping with the à Beckett bequest. The focus of the à Beckett Fellowships is building capacity in bowel cancer and bowel  health research across broad discipline areas to establish a major multidisciplinary program with core, interlocking areas.

Applications are welcome and encouraged from any discipline or faculty aligning with the à Beckett bequest in bowel cancer and bowel health. This can include, but is not limited to the following discipline areas:

  • Colorectal cancer cell biology
  • Microbiota
  • Screening
  • Systems biology
  • Clinical care

In the 2017 round, two à Beckett Fellowships are on offer. Preference will be for individuals with a minimum of two years’ post-doctoral experience, a proven capacity for an independent career and  outstanding research track record relative to opportunity.

Term and remuneration
The University of Sydney Fellowships will be available from January 2018 for a maximum duration of 5years with review after the initial 3 years. Remuneration of the Fellows will depend on the extent of post-doctoral experience but is expected to  range from Level B4 (Lecturer - base salary) to Level C5 (Senior Lecturer - base salary) of the University’s Academic salary scale. Research support of A$30,000 per annum will be provided to the à Beckett Fellows.

Indicative remuneration package: $134,307 to $165,880 p.a. (which includes salary, leave loading and 17% contribution to superannuation). Please note this information covers Level B4 to Level C5 so the specific remuneration will be discussed with the successful applicants.
